The method

Less decoding. More reading.

The Context Learning method gives you French that is just above your current level, but still understandable enough to keep reading.

Why graded readers work

  • You meet words repeatedly inside a story.
  • You absorb grammar patterns through context.
  • You build reading stamina without translating every line.
  • You enjoy recognizable stories earlier in your learning journey.

Original vs. Français Facile

Original text

"L'étrange voyage! Il avait si bien commencé cependant! Pour ma part, je n'en fis jamais qui s'annonçât sous de plus heureux auspices."

Context Learning edition

"Quel étrange voyage ! Pourtant, il avait si bien commencé. Pour ma part, je n'ai jamais fait de voyage qui commençait dans de meilleures conditions."

Reader reviews

What learners are saying.

Real reader feedback from Français Facile books.

★★★★★

"Great story that's easy to read for me as a French learner. Much better than the made-for-learners graded readers that rarely have a good plot or story. This on the other hand is a classic that has just been adapted for learners. Highly recommended."

Le Chien des Baskerville
★★★★☆

"Helped me work on my French, which is haven't used in years, but it was a more difficult read than I anticipated."

Candide
★★★★★

"The text feels like a genuine short novel rather than a classroom exercise, and that sense of immersion helps vocabulary and phrasing stick much more easily."

Portrait of Pierre Lefranc

Bonjour, I am Pierre Lefranc.

For the last 15 years, I have taught French to hundreds of English speakers, from university students to diplomats.

I noticed a frustrating pattern in my classroom. My students would master grammar rules and pass their exams. But when I handed them a real French novel, they would panic. They would spend 10 minutes decoding a single page, only to give up because the vocabulary was too literary, too old-fashioned, or too dense.

I created the Français Facile series to fix this. I wanted to give my students books that made them feel smart, not frustrated. My goal is to help you bridge the gap between textbook French and the real language.

When I am not adapting novels or correcting grammar, you can find me living the daily life of a Parisian: hunting for old paperbacks along the Seine, complaining about the Metro, or enjoying a café noisette on a terrace.

I wrote these books so you can one day join me here, order your own coffee with confidence, and read the classics without a dictionary.

À bientôt,
Pierre

Questions

FAQ

Which format should I choose?

Kindle is best for instant reading and portability. Paperback is best if you like writing notes, rereading pages, and seeing your progress physically.

What level should I start with?

If you are unsure, start easier than you think. A good graded reader should feel smooth enough that you can keep going without constant lookup.

Are these literal translations?

No. The books are adapted into simpler French while keeping the story, atmosphere, and learning value.

Do ARC readers have to leave reviews?

No. Reviews are optional and must be honest. Reader copies are offered to help learners discover new books and share feedback if they want to.
